Oracle Outside In Technology is a document extraction, conversion and viewing technology that can access the information in more than 600 file formats.
Details of these vulnerabilities are as follows:
  • A remote user can exploit a flaw in the Oracle Outside In Technology Outside In Filters component to access data and cause partial denial of service conditions. (CVE-2018-2768, CVE-2018-2806)
  • A remote user can exploit a flaw in the Oracle Outside In Technology Outside In Image Export SDK component to access data and cause partial denial of service conditions. (CVE-2018-2801)
Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could result in an attacker obtaining sensitive information on the affected server, or result in a denial-of-service condition.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
We recommend the following actions be taken:
  • Apply appropriate patches or appropriate mitigations provided by Microsoft to vulnerable systems immediately after appropriate testing
  • Run all software as a non-privileged user (one without administrative rights) to diminish the effects of a successful attack.
  • Remind all users not to visit untrusted websites or follow links provided by unknown or untrusted sources.
  • Inform and educate users regarding threats posed by hypertext links contained in emails or attachments especially from untrusted sources
  • Apply the Principle of Least Privilege to all systems and services.
