We too were shocked and saddened by the loss of life in San Bernardino. But the recent US magistrate order that Apple assist the US Government in unlocking the San Bernardino shooter’s iPhone, particularly absent any claim of exigent circumstances, is troubling.

That the order compels Apple not only to help the FBI unlock the iPhone, but actually write software to do so, threatens to set an alarming precedent.
